Hello Moira. It must have been quite something when it stood alone and you could really appreciate the design. It’s hard to photograph from most sides now as it is surrounded by later development. I was delighted to find it was a cherished community hub.

Good evening Gary. I suspect it comes down to money, especially with something as extravagant as a soaring tower. The writers of such comments just couldn’t comprehend how anyone could lavish so much money on a folly. Keep up the good work creating your own follies.
