In reply to Moira Garland. Hello Moira. Thanks for spotting the typo - it’s a mistake I have made before. So many follies are Georgian that my mind seems to have the 18C as its default setting. I couldn’t find out much more about the skeletons, and had to put the subject to one side as fascinating, but not central to the story. Ah well, some mysteries are never solved!

Another fascinating story with some threads not unravelled. As a viewer of archaeological TV programmes, and as a crime novels reader, I am left eondering whose were the skeletons? Elly Griffiths could make something of this… Then of course there’s the mystery of surrounding John Gibbs’ punishment, and life
(By the way there’s a tiny typo: at the 2nd mention of Sykes’ funeral where it says 1763, whereas it seems it should be 1863).
Thanks again for enlightening us about the story of another folly.
