Hello John. I’m pleased to hear that the story on the website brought back happy memories. It’s sad that the Rocket House no longer stands, but we are lucky that it was recorded before it disappeared.

I’m John Cannon and live in Sacramento Ca. My mother was a warbride and when the war was over she and my dad, both have passed now, moved back to my dad’s home in north Texas, a true culture shock to say the least. My dad remained in the air force after the war and put in for a transfer back to England just after i was born (1949) he was stationed at Scalthorpe Air Force Base from 1950-54. We lived in Salthouse and though I don’t remember a lot about my time there, I do remember the rocket house, it seemed an imposing structure at the time I was fascinated by it. We spent time at the beach or fishing for eels in the creek along the road and spent time up on the heath playing on the pond just above the village. My dad would climb the chestnut trees and we would roast them on the fire. We there during the 1953 flood I don’t remember much about it just that it was nighttime and looking out the second story of our house and seeing the water below. We moved back to the states in 55. Always wanted to return some day, looks like that’ll never happen, too late for that now. Always have the great memories tho wanted to thank you for your website and the pix thank you

I’ve just picked up my copy from my local bookshop and the folly does get a mention. Looking forward to reading it all. Thanks for the tip!

Hello Barbara and thank you for taking the time to comment. I haven’t seen the new biography but will order a copy, I’m keen to learn more about her. I’m a big Ed Kluz fan and love finding a chance to share his work.

Thank you for researching Randall's Folly and sharing it with us.
I haven't read it yet myself but Handheld Press recently published a biography of Valentine Ackland
https://www.handheldpress.co.uk/shop/womens-lives/frances-bingham-valentine-ackland-atransgressive-life/
I'm intrigued to know whether her stay at Randall's Folly is mentioned therein.
Love the Ed Kluz collage.
