My younger son was married in the Ashton Memorial. We certainly saw it as a romantic setting!

A lovely post. I can’t add to the list of monuments to love, but can (moving from the sublime to the ridiculous) add some memories of WIlliamson Park and the splendid and extravagant Ashton Memorial. The park hosts (or at least used to….) promenade plays in the summer, its lake, woods and quarry being a versatile setting for many a production; in particular the Memorial served well as Baskerville Hall, and memorably as Toad Hall, featuring an intrepid escape by Toad, abseiling off the upper balcony.

In reply to John Malaiperuman. Hello John. Yes, the team behind the House for Essex were making a very deliberate design choice. It's certainly brash in comparison to the Taj Mahal, but beautifully designed and built to tell the story of Julie. And its situation is superb.

Delightful series of Valentine follies;- however, the first two are comparable to the Taj Mahal in grandeur and elegance respectively, but the Essex version is t oovulgar by comparison, probably quite intentionally.
