I’m sure you are right that the ‘orange’ glass that Ruskin saw must have been a subtler tone to suggest autumn. The present deep red looks more like Mars.

Indeed and of course Sheffield was where Ruskin developed his museum to enable the working people of Sheffield to encounter and enjoy art.
