TOM (NYC)
HOW WONDERFUL THAT A GROUP HAD THE ENERGY, DRIVE, & FINANCE TO RECREATE SUCH A WONDERFUL 'IMAGE' OF THE PAST.
AS AN ANTIQUES DEALER OF PERIOD ... TIFFANY STUDIOS - (LAMPS AND GLASS),
I KNOW THE SIGNIFICANCE BETWEEN THE ORIGINAL AND A 'COPY'.
HERE, THOUGH THE STRUCTURE MAY NOT HAVE THE AGE OF ITS INSPIRATION,
THE VISUAL, WHEN WELL-DONE, IS ACCEPTABLE (@ LEAST IN MY OPINION).
AT THE MOMENT, ON THIS SIDE OF THE POND, WE COULD USE A LITTLE MORE CARE, IN OUR OWN 'ATTEMPT' - TO RE - CREATE ... ROME (AGAIN, MY OPINION).
CHEERS!

Hello and thanks for getting in touch. This sounds very interesting. I think the best people for you to contact are the team at Knutsford Heritage Centre, as they have a great interest in the Caesar company. Their website seems to be down today, but the email address is info@knutsfordheritage.co.uk

Gibbberd's design for the 'Roman' Temple shows not only a plan but also a co-ordinated Front Elevation (or cross section) which makes the whole creation come alive. J C (Jack) Shepherd and G A (Geoffrey) Jellicoe visited and measured Italian Renaissance gardens in the 1920s, publishing in 1925 "Italian Gardens of the Renaissance". It has been republished in various forms later. Many of the plans are accompanied by a cross section. The understanding of the gardens, with villa, trees, pools, paths and walls and the profile of the ground shown against the plan gives a sensation of almost being there. The authors also took a lot of dreamy black and white photos.
