I grew up in the area (with a best friend with the surname Lowndes) and often drove past the ‘pink church’. It is really nice to find out more about my local area. Thank you for your brilliant blog.

TODAY, I JUST READ, THE CATHOLIC CHURCH HAS ANNOUNCED ANOTHER ‘HUMAN’ BEING, CARLO ATUTIS, BEING RAISED TO THE LEVEL OF SAINT.
THERE WERE … ‘TENS OF THOUSANDS’ ATTENDING THE CEREMONY.
IT IS WITH THE ABOVE REALITY, PROVING … SUCH STRUCTURES, AS YOUR ARTICLE FEATURED, STILL SERVE A MEANINGFUL PURPOSE.
EVEN VIEWING ‘THEM’ FROM THEIR OUTSIDE, HAS ITS OWN POSITIVE EFFECT.

I MYSELF FIND THOSE ‘SACRED’ SPACES, EVER MORE NEEDED IN THESE TIMES.

I’m curious as to what Lowndes intensions were. Was he building a private chapel and family mausoleum or did he anticipate it being consecrated by a church governing body? Either way, such a shame that it was demolished. Thankfully these images of it survive.
