Hello Caroline. Thank you for the compliment which is gratefully accepted! It is heartening to report on a tower that came so very close to demolition but was reprieved. It is a very simple tower and probably looked better before the trees grew around it. It’s a very peaceful location and worth seeing if you are ever in the area.

I always love reading your illustrated essays. They are invariably educational and instructive, as well as heart-warming. This one is unusual in that the tower was not demolished after all, for a roundabout set of reasons. It is saddening to read how frequently follies are pulled down and gladdening to come across exceptions. I must admit, though, that Booker’s Tower is not among the many aesthetically glorious favourites that you have revealed to me. Thanks so much for great enjoyment.
